How to Open and Backup the Registry

  1. Run a search for regedit
  2. Click on regedit – run command
  3. File > Export  – This will export and backup the entire registry
  4. Choose a File Name and Location for your backup and click Save
  5. Your registry is now open and a backup saved

 How to Restore the Registry

If something didn’t turn out the way you expect it to or you need to revert the changes you made then follow these instructions to restore your backup.

  1. Run a search for regedit
  2. Click on regedit – run command
  3. File > Import  – Select the file you saved (it will have an .reg file extension)
  4. Click Open
  5. Some registry settings require you to restart the computer to take effect
